The Chicago Police Department is escalating its fight against drunk driving by implementing a DUI Saturation Patrol in the 3rd (Grand Crossing) District this weekend. In a continuous effort to ensure the safety of community roads, the saturation patrol is scheduled to commence at 6 p.m. tomorrow, and to stretch into the early hours of Sunday, concluding at 2 a.m.

During this period, officers will be systematically monitoring the roads to swiftly detect any signs of impaired driving. This initiative not only zones in on alcohol-induced negligence but also seeks to enforce adherence to speed limitations, and seat belt laws. Advanced police vehicles equipped for speed detection will be on the lookout, ready to apprehend those merely attempting to flout the mandated speed thresholds.

The Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit will also be in play, designed to expedite arrests of those charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). This portable unit serves a dual purpose – it permits officers to file charges at the scene and issue Individual Recognizance Bonds (I-Bonds), thereby forgoing the need to transport suspects to a lockup for processing.

Reflecting on the operation held in the 17th (Albany Park) District on February 15-16, 2025, authorities released noteworthy outcomes. There were zero DUI arrests, but the crackdown yielded 10 citations for unsafe vehicle violations, 3 for insurance violations, one seat belt infraction, a sole incident of a driver's license violation, and six speed violations. An additional 16 citations were handed out for various other traffic violations. Despite the concentrated efforts, there were no vehicles towed, nor any arrests made that did not involve vehicular or traffic infringements.
