The Chicago Police Department has announced a DUI Saturation Patrol set to canvas the 11th (Harrison) District this coming weekend, aiming to aggressively police impaired driving and other traffic violations. The operation is scheduled to start on Friday, February 21, 2025, and to last until the early hours of February 22. According to their press release, the patrol's mission is to thoroughly monitor the movement of vehicles, methodically looking for indications of drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Officers participating in the patrol will not only look to strictly enforce DUI laws but will also emphasize other traffic-related offenses including speeding, safety belt, and insurance violations. Police will be equipped with speed detection devices specifically designed to quickly apprehend those breaking the law. Moreover, resources such as the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit might be deployed, aiming to expedite the DUI charge process before alleged offenders are taken into custody for bonding.
Recent data from a similar operation in the 17th (Albany Park) District, conducted the previous weekend, resulted in a variety of citations but no DUI arrests. During the saturation patrol from February 15-16, as cited in the Chicago Police Department's report, officers issued a total of 37 citations, breaking down as follows: 10 unsafe vehicle violations, 3 insurance violations, 1 seat belt violation, 1 driver's license violation, 6 speed violations, and 16 other assorted traffic violations.
