A Deer Park mother has been charged with attempted murder following a January incident where she allegedly shot her 12-year-old son in the head. Court records indicate that Briasha Stroud, 28, faces one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault, confirmed by Cincinnati.com.
The shooting took place in the afternoon on Jan. 26 inside a car parked in a garage on Glenway Avenue. Following the incident, the woman reportedly overdosed. A 911 call placed by the woman's boyfriend informed the dispatcher of the shooting and the apparent overdose, with the caller claiming that he did not hear any gunshots from inside the house at the time of the incident. Police, when they arrived, found both the juvenile and adult with gunshot wounds. The juvenile is a student at Amity Elementary School, according to WLWT.
Briasha Stroud was indicted on Jan. 30, and her arraignment is set for February 7 in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. After the indictment, the Deer Park School District circulated a letter to families ensuring that counselors and mental health professionals are available for students and staff, reinforcing that the safety and well-being of students remain a top priority. "The incident is believed to be domestic related, and there is no threat to the general public," Deer Park police stated in a press release, as reported by FOX19.
Stroud is currently detained at the Hamilton County Justice Center. Details regarding the motive or circumstances leading up to the horrific event have not been disclosed as the investigation by Deer Park police continues. In response to the unsettling news, Deer Park's superintendent conveyed to parents and guardians the school's commitment to student safety, saying through FOX19, "understands this news is upsetting and concerning." This assurance was echoed through vigorous efforts to support those affected by the tragedy within the community.
