The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is currently investigating an incident that led to the death of Christopher Pool, a 46-year-old Columbus man, after his vehicle ended up in a pond off N Indianapolis Road and Kenholt Drive. As reported by FOX59, the CPD, along with other first responders, were summoned to the scene around 11:31 a.m. yesterday, following reports of a car submerged in the pond.
Upon arrival, officers discovered several individuals attempting a water rescue, endeavoring to extract the driver from the sinking vehicle. The CPD joined the group. However, Pool remained trapped inside. According to The Bridge FM, the Columbus Fire Department and the Bartholomew County Water Rescue Team rapidly deployed rescue boats and divers in response. Tragically, life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and Mr. Pool was pronounced dead at the location of accident.
In an effort to unearth the reasons behind this fatal accident, CPD detectives are working closely with the Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office. Preliminary assessments suggest that Mr. Pool was driving southbound on Indianapolis Road before his vehicle inexplicably veered off the road, cutting through bushes and ultimately plunging into the pond. This account was corroborated by statements obtained by WKKG, indicating the sudden and unexplained nature of the departure from the roadway.
The attempt to save Mr. Pool was not without consequence, as multiple individuals incurred minor injuries amid their valiant rescue efforts. All injured parties received treatment and were subsequently released.
