An altercation inside a Miramar Walgreens today led to gunshots and left one customer in critical condition, according to local authorities. The incident, which took place just before noon, resulted in police and emergency teams rushing to the scene at the store located at 2499 SW 101st Ave., near Miramar Boulevard and Palm Avenue.
Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss confirmed that a dispute escalated when one of the individuals involved drew a firearm and shot the other. The victim was urgently transported to Memorial Regional Hospital as a trauma alert, as per NBC Miami. Chief Moss described the event, "It looks like a dispute between two people that involved nobody else, it was well isolated, but unfortunately it happened inside the store while they were open for business."
Aerial footage from the scene showed police presence and the establishment cordoned off by yellow tape. Meanwhile, reports indicated that a suspect is now in custody and that, at this phase, no further threat to the public seems to exist, according to WSVN.
The investigation into the shooting continues as detectives interview witnesses from the store. Social workers have also been brought in to aid those who have witnessed the trauma of the shooting. Local officials have advised drivers to avoid the area to facilitate the ongoing police work.
