A young Hoosier is making her mark at the Indiana Statehouse this legislative session. Pia Lopez, hailing from Dyer, Indiana, is diligently working as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus, according to a recent post by Indiana Senate Republicans. Lopez, who graduated from Lake Central High School, is currently a junior at Purdue University Northwest, where she's majoring in political science and history.
State Sen. Dan Dernulc (R-Highland) praised the internship program, stating, "Interns are a vital part of our work during session." He further acknowledged Lopez's contribution: "It was very exciting for me to see a northwest Hoosier taking part in our unique internship. It is a great experience for anyone looking to get into public service, and I commend Pia for her hard work and dedication to serving Indiana," Dernulc proclaimed to Indiana Senate Republicans.
Lopez, the daughter of Gresyl and Oscar Lopez, is gaining hands-on experience in the workings of state government. In her role, she tracks and analyzes bill data, provides constituent services, staffs Senate committee hearings and meetings, and conducts legislative policy research, tasks that are crucial to the function of the Senate Majority Caucus.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Lopez said, "I am honored to contribute to my home state. Here I have been applying my education in the principles of our esteemed American governance." Her internship is scheduled to last through the entirety of the legislative session, which is expected to conclude by April 29, as she stated to Indiana Senate Republicans.
