An early morning tragedy occurred on Indianapolis' southeast side where a woman died in a single-vehicle crash, according to multiple reports. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a call near the 6300 block of Mimosa Lane at around 1:20 a.m., FOX59 reported. They discovered an adult woman, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, inside an overturned SUV and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Further details emerged, indicating the incident involved the vehicle failing to navigate a sharp turn on Southeastern Avenue where it transitions into Mimosa Lane. This area sits adjacent to I-74, a location known for its curve driving challenges. "It’s unclear right now whether speed was a factor or anything else," IMPD Capt. John Arvin told FOX59.
News coverage from WISH-TV corroborated the crash's circumstances, offering that the car flipped at least once after the driver missed the critical curve, leading to her untimely death.
IMPD is conducting a proper investigation with toxicology results pending to further understand the causation of this fatal event. No other vehicles were reportedly involved in this accident, as stated by a representative from the IMPD in a statement obtained by WRTV. The certified accident investigator on the scene is tasked with collecting necessary measurements and evidence to piece together the events that transpired on this dark morning.
When new information becomes available, updates are expected to be shared with the public regarding the cause of this accident and the identity of the deceased.
