El Cajon police have apprehended a suspect in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred yesterday. Following a report at 1:23 PM, officers arrived at the 500 block of Lincoln Ave., where they found a male victim with critical stab wounds. An altercation in an apartment complex courtyard was identified as the precursor to the attack, with the suspect, identified as Alexander Deleon-Garcia, accused of inflicting the injuries before fleeing in his vehicle, as per the El Cajon Police Department.
The police attempted a traffic stop around 1:30 PM after spotting a vehicle matching the witness's description. However, the suspect chose to quickly drive away, leading to a chase that ended when police lost sight of him. Soon after, a minor traffic accident, reported in the 2400 block of Fletcher Pkwy, was revealed to involve the suspect's vehicle. Deleon-Garcia had again fled, this time on foot, before law enforcement officials found him hiding in a nearby dumpster.
Garcia, 29, was arrested without further incidence and is now facing charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Hit & Run Causing Injury. He is currently booked into San Diego County Jail. Following the incidents, the victim was transported to the hospital for urgent surgery; the current state of his health is yet unknown.
