A somber turn of events took place at a busy city intersection when a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle, marking the city's seventh traffic-related death this year. As reported by the El Paso Police Department yesterday afternoon, at approximately 2:17 PM, the Special Traffic Investigations unit responded to a crash at Montwood and Lake Omega. It was there, according to the initial investigation, that Mr. Fierro collided with Mrs. Hernandez's vehicle while crossing the street against a no-walk signal.

The unfortunate incident unfolded as Mr. Fierro, heading south on an electric mobility scooter began crossing Montwood while, at the same time Mrs. Hernandez was driving eastbound on Montwood, approaching the intersection where Mrs. Hernandez had a green light, but in a heartbreaking turn of events, Mr. Fierro continued into the intersection, resulting in the collision.

The pedestrian, Mr. Fierro, was quickly transported to a local hospital, however, he later succumbed to his injuries. The primary cause of the crash appears to be the act of crossing against the signal, which tragically resulted in this incident being the seventh traffic fatality of the year, a slight decrease from the 10 fatalities reported at the same time in the previous year, per the El Paso Police Department.
