
Escondido parents breathed a collective sigh of relief following the arrest of a suspect in an attempted child abduction near Pioneer Elementary School on Tuesday. According to the Escondido Police Department, a child was approached by a man in a dark green sedan while walking to school, but the quick-thinking student managed to evade the frightening scenario unharmed and alert authorities.
The apprehension of 27-year-old Jose Cruz-Ruiz occurred the following day when Escondido police detectives, following an exhaustive investigation that led them into the twilight hours, spotted the suspect's vehicle on Auto Parkway near Andreasen Drive in an operation that effectively put an end to a tense 24-hour period for the community. Cruz-Ruiz, an Escondido resident, is now facing kidnapping charges, with his case noted by the police with the reference number 25001339.
