The northbound lanes of Interstate 95 at the Golden Glades Interchange have reopened after a fatal crash this morning. The incident involved a Honda car crashing into an excavator after the driver lost control. Authorities closed the highway for several hours to manage the aftermath.
According to CBS News, the car was headed north when it veered off the road around 4 a.m., resulting in the fatal crash. This caused significant traffic delays as drivers were forced to exit at NW 167th Street and find alternate routes to rejoin northbound I-95. The identity of the deceased has not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
WSVN reported that the vehicle was approaching a sharp right turn but failed to navigate it properly, hitting the center median before colliding with the excavator at the construction site. Authorities cleared the wreckage, and the victim's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office, while the car was towed.
As per Local 10 News, FHP Lt. Alex Camacho said, for reasons yet to be determined, the Honda veered off the roadway, into the center median, where it collided with the excavator. The investigation is ongoing.
