Fatal Pursuit Shatters Family, Toddler's Life Support Ends Following Indiana Chase TragedySource: Hendricks County Jail

The heartrending decision to remove a 3-year-old boy from life support follows a devastating crash in Plainfield, Indiana, which also claimed the life of his 2-month-old sister during a police chase last Wednesday. The family shared with 13News that the young boy, Ares, will have his organ donated, in a bittersweet gesture following a series of life-altering events.

According to an IndyStar report, Ares sustained severe burns after the family's car was struck by the suspect vehicle during a law enforcement pursuit. A GoFundMe page created by family friend Ashlee Vitz hopes to provide financial support for the family during this time. S'Doni Pettis, the driver involved in the crash, faces multiple charges including causing death when operating a vehicle and resisting law enforcement, as outlined in court documents.

The vehicle driven by Pettis, identified as a stolen gray Honda Civic, was spotted by Avon Police who attempted a routine pull-over that escalated into the fatal pursuit. Following the collision, Pettis admitted to operating the stolen vehicle and smoking marijuana an hour before the incident, as detailed in a report by WRTV. Despite this confession, the onboard data from Pettis' vehicle contradicted his claim of attempting to brake before the collision.

The father of the children, Shadow Moore, despite sustaining injuries, is no longer hospitalized and is described as having done everything in his power to save his children. "He did everything he could to save the kids," Vitz told IndyStar. "But he is still devastated at not being able to do it." The tragic accident has drawn attention to the dangers associated with high-speed pursuits and their potential collateral damage on innocent lives.

Jack Vawter, the children's mother, echoed a plea for safe driving. "Just be there for the ones you love every second you can," Vawter implored in her statement to 13News, as she grapples with the sudden shift from the happiest times of her life to the unfathomable depth of her current sorrow.
