Firefighters on Cape Cod had to quickly respond to a blaze at the Hyannis Rail Yard late last night. According to a report by WCVB, the fire department was called to the scene around 10 p.m., where they found one Cape Cod Central Railroad car engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no one was aboard the train car at the time and no injuries were reported.
The challenge to swiftly extinguish the fire was compounded by the additional hardship of fighting against whipping winds. Despite these conditions, the fire was put out after 20 minutes, as documented by WHDH. Crews worked under the added pressure of the winds to successfully douse the flames that had taken hold beneath a cab in the rail yard.
The incident drew a swift response from the Hyannis Fire Department, who were able to contain the situation without incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Both reports from WCVB and WHDH did not indicate any speculation on what might have sparked the blaze.
Firefighters in this instance managed to prevent any significant harm or widespread damage. The Hyannis Fire Department has not yet released any further details on potential leads to rapidly establish the cause of the fire.
