A standoff in Hollywood on Monday ended with the arrest of a fugitive wanted in New York, leading to lockdowns at four nearby schools. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Recovery Task Force, with help from Hollywood Police's SWAT and K-9 units, surrounded and peacefully apprehended the individual after several hours. According to CBS News Miami, the situation began when authorities tried to arrest the suspect, who fled to a shed in the backyard of a home on North 46th Avenue.
The operation began around noon when officers attempted to detain the suspect, but he ran and hid in a nearby shed. Hollywood Police responded quickly, setting up a perimeter to contain the situation. The suspect surrendered without harm, as per the NBC Miami report.
While the suspect's identity and the charges against him remain unclear, Hollywood Police confirmed he was wanted by law enforcement in New York. During the standoff, four nearby schools were placed on lockdown for safety, but the lockdowns were lifted once the suspect was in custody.
