The countdown is finally over for the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, which sets its grand opening for May 15. This latest addition to Chula Vista's bayfront is a staggering $1.3 billion investment, aiming to redefine the South Bay's skyline. With its prime location at 1000 H St, the resort will be the largest hotel erected on the West Coast. It will be the sixth installment under the prestigious Gaylord Hotels brand, associated with Marriott Bonvoy, FOX5 San Diego reported.
Its 1,600 rooms, including 89 luxurious suites, aren't the only draw. The resort boasts a 4.25-acre outdoor water park, complete with waterslides, a lazy river, a wave pool, and a playground, not to mention the five pools, five bars, and restaurants, which guests can soon indulge in. In a statement obtained by 10News, Peter Borum, the director of marketing and public relations for Gaylord Pacific, emphasized the resort's aim to deliver an unparalleled experience with "breathtaking views of the bay and Pacific Ocean."
Driving more than just tourism, the resort is set to create around 800 jobs in the region. The hiring surge stretches across various departments, from food and beverage to front desk and engineering. "We are well beyond 95% done. We’re opening up in May. We’re in the process of hiring all roles in all key departments," Borum told 10News. Job seekers can expect to find many positions, and Gaylord Pacific is actively partnering with local institutions like the San Diego Workforce Partnership to staff its expansive operation.
Marian Daryaie from the San Diego Workforce Partnership outlined their affirmative action, hosting a series of upcoming hiring events at Southwestern College. "We’ve been working with the Gaylord Hotel for a couple of months now. They’re bringing 800 local positions to the region," said Daryaie, whose organization is facilitating hiring events that offer on-the-spot interviews for qualified candidates. These events are scheduled on March 7, 8, 14, 15, and 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as per information from 10News. Prospective employees are encouraged to apply in advance and then turn up on the mentioned days to navigate the prescreening process.
