A vehicle accident on Florida's Turnpike resulted in a car plunging into a Miami-Dade canal, prompting a rescue operation. The incident occurred near Mile Marker 8 on the northbound lanes of the Turnpike this morning, according to NBC Miami. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams, including divers, responded quickly to the scene.
As reported by WSVN, the car crashed into a tractor trailer, went off the road, and sank in a canal just south of the Turnpike near 112th Avenue. One person inside the vehicle was pulled out and received CPR for cardiac arrest before being airlifted to Jackson Memorial South for treatment.
Despite extensive search efforts by dive teams, no additional occupants were found in the vehicle. The accident caused significant traffic delays, as two northbound lanes near exit 9 were closed.
