On Saturday, a hiker's journey on the Pu‘u Manamana Trail in Ka‘a‘awa required assistance when the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a distress call. According to a news release from the HFD, the call came in at 7:31 p.m., leading to the dispatch of 5 units and 14 personnel by 7:35 p.m. The hiker, a man in his 50s, was found in a difficult location where the terrain prevented a safe descent. He was uninjured and had enough supplies to remain until help arrived.

The rescue efforts were delayed due to unsafe conditions, which made an Air 1 extraction unfeasible. First responders decided to wait until daylight. The hiker had enough food and water to remain overnight in the mountains until help arrived.

In an update to the ongoing incident, the Honolulu Fire Department confirmed the successful resolution of the operation. Resuming at first light on Sunday, 4 units and 11 personnel reconvened to safely airlift the hiker from his precarious position. He was brought to the landing zone at 7:20 a.m. and subsequently declined any medical attention.
