An individual with ties to the notorious Tren de Aragua gang and wanted on kidnapping charges by authorities in Chile was arrested in Indianapolis, as per the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Venezuelan citizen's captured on Tuesday marks a concerted effort by international law enforcement to clamp down on transnational criminal organizations.
Acting ICE Homeland Security Investigations Chicago Special Agent in Charge Dan Johnsen highlighted the significance of such cooperation: "Thanks to the strong collaboration between U.S. law enforcement and our international counterparts, we were able to apprehend this individual, who has connections to dangerous criminal organizations like Tren de Aragua," he stated. Johnsen stressed that organized crime groups don't merely pose a threat locally; they compromise the safety and security on a global scale. According to ICE, the suspect entered the U.S. unlawfully in 2024, and has been on the radar of Chilean law enforcement due to the alleged kidnapping that occurred during their residence in Chile.
The arrest sheds light on the continuous efforts by ICE to track and detain individuals who may pose threats to the community due to their criminal affiliations. The unnamed Venezuelan currently remains in ICE custody as he awaits immigration proceedings, with authorities maintaining a vigilant stance against such cross-border crime networks.
ICE has also issued a call to the public to actively participate in the efforts to keep communities safe by reporting crimes or suspicious activity. "Members of the public can report crimes or suspicious activity by dialing the ICE Tip Line at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or completing the online tip form," announced ICE.
