In a move to engage with the younger constituents of Indiana, State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper) hosted students from local schools at the Statehouse as part of the Senate Page Program. The initiative offers an educational glimpse into the legislative process for students in grades six through 12.
Among the recent participants were Amelia Grothouse from Dubois Intermediate School and Chase Blubaum from Heritage Hills Middle School, who served as Senate pages in January. Their experience included a tour of the historic Statehouse, watching debates from the Senate floor, and interacting with their state senator.
Highlighting the importance of the program, Sen. Schmitt said in a statement obtained by the Indiana State Republicans, "The Senate Page Program introduces a greater meaning to my role as a new State Senator." He further expressed his gratification for the face-to-face time with the Hoosier youth and showed enthusiasm for upcoming sessions with more students.
The Senate Page Program typically operates on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the legislative session, while groups are scheduled to serve on Wednesdays. This structured format provides a consistent opportunity for students to immerse themselves in government affairs and envision a potential future within the halls of policy and governance.
