Last Sunday, the Indiana State Police responded to 94 crashes and 34 slide-offs in Central Indiana as winter weather conditions worsened. Fox59 reports that troopers investigated these incidents by midday, with snow accumulation continuing to affect the area.
Travel advisories were issued due to hazardous driving conditions as roads became treacherous. A semi truck jack-knifed, blocking the ramp from Interstate 70 eastbound to Interstate 465 on the west side of Indianapolis. Drivers were directed to the Indiana Department of Transportation TrafficWise website for updates on closures, delays, and road conditions. WTHR also provided a live Doppler 13 Radar feed for monitoring the storm.
The Indiana State Police reminded drivers to prioritize road safety and emergency preparedness due to a winter storm. They advised calling 911 if a breakdown occurs and keeping vehicles fueled and stocked with blankets to stay warm. The storm brought snow, with temperatures expected to stay in the upper 20s to lower 30s, and winds reaching up to 35 mph, making it feel like the teens. These conditions required extra caution for anyone traveling in Indiana, according to WRTV.
