An officer-involved shooting in Putnam County is now under investigation after a suspect was injured in a firefight with law enforcement. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, involved members of the Algood Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. After a car chase with the suspect, shots were exchanged, resulting in the non-fatal injury of the alleged perpetrator. The injured party was subsequently transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, WSMV reports.
At this time, the details about why the chase began or what provoked the exchange of gunfire have not been made public. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken over the proceedings to decipher the day's events. According to a social media update by the Algood Police Department, "The suspect was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained during the incident. No officers were injured." Miraculously, no law enforcement personnel were reported harmed during the confrontation.
In a statement issued via their Facebook page, the Algood Police Department said, "The TBI is currently on scene and will be investigating."
