A woman was found dead at a Northeast Miami-Dade residence yesterday late evening, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The discovery was made at a home near the corner of NE 2nd Avenue and NE 107th Street, close to Barry University, as reported by NBC Miami.
A neighbor told CBS News that the body was found in the backyard next to the back door early Tuesday morning after hearing noises from Sheriff's investigators. The neighbor suggested that the deceased might have been a girlfriend of someone living in the house, though he did not recognize her.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office has detained a man in connection to the incident and is treating the death as a homicide. However, the woman’s identity and cause of death have not been revealed. According to NBC Miami, NE 2nd Avenue between NE 108th Street and NE 107th Street was closed during the investigation, but the Sheriff's Office assured that there is no immediate threat to the community.
A neighbor also reported hearing several gunshots around 10 p.m. yesterday, which was shared with CBS News Miami. The case remains under investigation.
