A blaze that erupted on Sunday has left a Maine Turnpike Authority garage in ashes, according to authorities. The fire, located just off Interstate 95 in Auburn, left the structure and its contents completely destroyed, but no injuries have been reported.
The inferno was first alerted to responders after a 911 call came through at 5:55 p.m., as reported by NBC Boston. Fire crews from Auburn arrived to find the six-bay garage, "fully involved" and beyond salvage. The State Fire Marshal's Office, who are still investigating the incident, was on the scene Monday morning, trying to uncover the cause and origin of the fire.
According to News Center Maine, Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety communicated through a release that the fire department's immediate response to the Sunday night alert thankfully prevented any losses beyond property.
Details on what was inside the garage or the extent of the value of the lost property have not yet been disclosed. However, the damage has been severe enough for officials to deem everything within the structure, a total loss.
