At approximately 2:30 a.m., a man reported with a gunshot wound sought assistance from the Shelby County Fire Department at the intersection of Stansell Court and Lowearance Road. Action News 5 reported that the injured individual was subsequently transported to Regional One Hospital and is in non-critical condition.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is investigating the events leading up to the shooting, and while deputies continue their work, they have advised altering travel plans in the vicinity. According to a FOX13 report, a collision involving what appears to be an SUV in a ditch near the shooting scene was also discovered.
Further details suggest that the incident occurred in the 4000 block of Stansell Court near the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel close to Hacks Cross Road. In pursuit of assistance, the victim flagged down fire department personnel, who were among the first responders to the situation. WREG crews noted the presence of a wrecked vehicle and crime scene tape at the location. The identity and motive of the shooter remain undetermined at this stage of the investigation. WREG reported on the developments and the advice provided by deputies suggesting drivers use Marsha Woods Drive as an alternate route to avoid the area.
