The Shelby County District Attorney's Office has reported that Clarence Carter, 45, was sentenced to eight years for driving a semi-truck into a Kroger store in Millington after pleading guilty to charges of reckless endangerment. This sentence comes nearly a year after the incident in April 2024, which caused significant damage to the store. Action News 5 confirmed the sentencing took place this week.
Following an altercation inside the Kroger located on Highway 51, Carter plowed his semi-truck through the front doors of the establishment. The WREG report detailed that employees were present during the incident, but fortunately, none suffered injuries. Carter was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene. "We had to dismantle the truck to get the truck out of the building," Chief Gary Graves, Public Safety Director of the City of Millington, said in a statement obtained by WREG. Carter's defense requested the suspension of his 8-year sentence, but the judge denied the plea.
