Massachusetts State Police are currently on the lookout for a tractor-trailer driver following a dramatic high-speed chase through Dedham. The chase began after a state trooper noticed the truck driving erratically on the University Avenue ramp to I-95 North in Westwood, as reported by CBS News Boston. Despite the involvement of troopers, the Air Wing, and K9 units, the driver managed to crash the vehicle and flee on foot into the surrounding woods.
Prior to the pursuit on Interstate 95, the same truck had caused a stir at the Bosco Crane Company in Canton. According to WCVB, the tractor-trailer struck a forklift, causing significant damage and getting one of the blades lodged in its trailer. "He took this machine over on its side and dragged in 25 to 35 feet from where we are standing now," Dan McKeeney, owner of Bosco Crane, told the publication. McKeeney stated that the driver had even offered to cover the damage before abruptly leaving the scene once police were mentioned.
The situation escalated when the suspect refused to stop for the police, which led to the chase on I-95, as state police spokesperson Tim McGuirk recounted in statements made to the media. The incident concluded with the tractor-trailer crashing at Exit 33, Great Plain Avenue, near the Needham-Dedham line. In a surprising turn of events, despite extensive efforts by multiple officers and K-9 units to locate the suspect, the individual managed to evade capture.
Witnesses and residents were taken aback by the severity of the chase and subsequent manhunt. "I've never seen that. I've seen chases, I've seen stop sticks used but I've never seen a tractor-trailer into the woods," Parker Harrington said in the article by CBS News Boston. The suspect was last seen with a duffel bag and a knapsack, raising further questions about the contents and why he was so determined to avoid police discovery. The investigation continues, with authorities calling on anyone with information to come forward and assist Massachusetts State Police in their search.
