Local Greenfield resident, Caden Wildey, has stepped through the doors of the Indiana Statehouse to serve as an intern for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus. A junior at Marian University, majoring in finance, Wildey, previously a Senate page for State Sen. Michael Crider (R-Greenfield), is now adding layers of governmental insight to his academic pursuits. Crider, speaking of Wildey's contribution, shared his thoughts with Indiana Senate Republicans, stating, "Without our interns here helping us, session would not run as effectively."
As Wildey navigates the complex structure of state legislation, his responsibilities burgeon. A day in the life at the statehouse includes tracking and analyzing bill data, staffing Senate committee hearings and meetings, conducting legislative policy research, and perhaps most vitally, providing constituent services. These tasks align with the quintessential functions of the legislative process—a blend of policy and people from which the machinery of governance draws its power.
The internship, as Crider highlighted, is more than just a learning opportunity for students like Wildey. "It's exciting to have a former Senate page of mine continue his passion for public service by interning here and gaining additional experience and knowledge," Crider told Indiana Senate Republicans. This experiential education provides Wildey with a unique vantage point, one that merges the theoretical with the practical, the academic with the civic.
The role of the Senate Majority interns is crucial for ensuring procedural efficiency and effectiveness throughout the legislative session which concludes on April 29. With Wildey and his peers' assistance, bills and legislative activities are continually monitored, allowing elected officials to focus on decision-making and strategic governance.
