Miami-Dade County, in collaboration with Honda, is taking a modern leap in airport maintenance technology by introducing autonomous work vehicles (AWVs) and autonomous work mowers (AWMs) at Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport. During a live demonstration set for Tuesday, Miami will witness these state-of-the-art prototypes mowing grass and dispensing pesticide across the expansive 960-acre airport. Clearly signaling a potential change in the landscape of airport upkeep, the event marks the U.S. debut of Honda’s autonomous technology in action, as per the county's release.
Completing a three-month pilot program at both Miami Homestead General and Miami Executive Airport, Honda's prototypes have reliably shown up for work four days a week, programmed with the capacity to navigate autonomously and sidestep obstacles. MIA Director and CEO Ralph Cutié, planning to be present at the demonstration, and Honda Vice President of Sustainability & Business Development Jay Joseph, are set to host the event, shedding light on the future of ground maintenance.
The practical show-and-tell is scheduled to kick off on February 25, at 10 a.m., at the Miami-Homestead General Aviation Airport.
