A Miami-Dade music teacher is facing serious charges after he was arrested for smoking marijuana with a 14-year-old girl and allegedly trying to seduce her. Tyree Jamar Love, 24, was taken into custody by Miami Gardens Police after the teen alerted school officials of their interactions, which began on Valentine's Day at Buccaneer Park while both were charging their electric scooters.
According to a Local 10 News report, the teen, who initially lied about her age and the school she attended, told police she had smoked marijuana with Love who believed she was 17. During their encounter, they exchanged phone numbers and continued to communicate through text messages, where Love mentioned meeting up again, offering to get a room for more privacy. "It depends on how much privacy we need; I know a lot of outside chill spots or we can get a room. Depending on if you can dress up to fit in next to me. If we keep taking the risk and linking up, we have to be secure and can't let a single soul know anything," Love texted, as per the arrest report.
The teen's mother expressed her distress, saying in an NBC6 interview, "I just feel like you really can’t trust anybody because from what the school told me, I guess he works for the school on occasion. You don’t know who you can trust. It can be your neighbor. Your teacher. It can be anybody. It’s just alarming.”
The accused teacher is an employee of Young Musicians Unite, which is contracted by the Miami-Dade School Board to teach students to play instruments. Upon the teen recognizing Love at her school, she became frightened and revealed the truth to the school staff, which led to his arrest. Love now faces charges of using a computer to seduce or lure a child to engage in sex conduct, offenses against students by authority figures and, contributing to the delinquency of a child. Law enforcement officials confirmed that Love declined to give a statement following his transport to the Miami Gardens Police Department.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools issued a statement, which was shared by Local 10 News, saying, “Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is deeply troubled by the allegations against this individual, who was arrested by the Miami Gardens Police Department. While he is not an M-DCPS employee, he will no longer be permitted to serve as an after-school worker within the District. M-DCPS remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff." Love has since been ordered to stay away from the teen and Buccaneer Park and is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $3,000 bond.
