The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fourth consecutive decade. This award, given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), recognizes WASD’s commitment to transparent financial reporting for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2023.

According to the Miami-Dade County release, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised the department for its dedication to responsible budgeting, stating, " For four decades, they’ve shown transparency and accountability while delivering essential services. Their ongoing dedication builds trust, supports sustainability, and helps ensure a strong future for our residents."

The GFOA’s award is the highest recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting. WASD Interim Director Amanda Kinnick expressed pride in the achievement, saying, "I am proud to be leading a department that has been able to meet the transparency and high standards set by the GFOA for that last 41 years," in the same release.

An impartial panel reviewed WASD’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report to ensure it met the GFOA’s high standards. GFOA, a nonprofit with about 17,500 members, emphasizes the importance of trust in public finances.

WASD remains committed to both reliable service provision and the responsible management of public funds. For more information on their financial practices, the WASD website offers additional resources and details.
