Chaos unfolded at a west Miami-Dade apartment building yesterday night when a City of Miami police officer discharged their firearm during a task force operation. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident occurred at 9599 Fontainebleau Blvd, as reported by Local 10 News.
The officer, part of a multi-agency group focused on proactive operations, was involved in what was described as a "proactive detail." However, the events leading up to the shooting remain unclear. NBC Miami confirmed that the officer involved is a robbery detective with the Miami Police Department and was not injured during the incident.
Authorities were seen gathered around a parking garage at the complex and maintained a presence through this morning. Crime scene investigators also attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings.
