Last week's tragic incident on the MacArthur Causeway, where 18-year-old Gabriela Rios Flores was severely injured in a crash, has resulted in her death. As reported by CBS News, following her death, the charges against the driver, Nicholas Robinson, were upgraded to vehicular homicide.

Robinson, 24, was originally charged with DUI and reckless driving after the early Friday morning collision last week, where he crashed into Flores' disabled Jeep Wrangler on the westbound lanes of the MacArthur Causeway.

The accident caused significant delays for commuters, with a crash involving a black Jeep Wrangler and a silver sedan. According to WSVN, the MacArthur Causeway was closed for nearly five hours, resulting in backups extending to Biscayne Boulevard.

Two people were transported to the hospital after the crash, one in critical condition, later confirmed to be Flores. Robinson was arrested and charged in connection with the crash.

After hitting a cement divider, Robinson's vehicle struck Flores' Jeep, causing it to flip and eject her. According to the arrest report, Robinson showed "possible signs of impairment" with slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on his breath. His response to officers was, "Why are you stopping me, it's my birthday and did you get the other car," as reported by CBS News.
