A Milford man is facing multiple charges including civil rights violations after an incident involving a disturbance and subsequent arrest where he allegedly hurled racial slurs at a police officer and defaced a police cruiser, authorities said.
The Milford Police Department, via a social media post, detailed that officers responded to a call on Saturday afternoon about a disturbance on Dogwood Lane. Upon arrival, they found Matthew Daniello, 28, of Milford, who appeared to be intoxicated. Following an investigation at the scene, Daniello was arrested, and during the transport process, he reportedly became uncompliant, defacing the officer’s vehicle and directing racial slurs at an assisting officer. The Milford Police Department stated that Daniello has been charged with a number of crimes including assault and battery (A&B), defacement of property, assault, strangulation or suffocation, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, A&B on a police officer, and a civil rights violation.
Daniello's alleged actions have particularly sparked concerns due to the nature of a civil rights violation charge.
