Yesterday's gala at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center wasn't just about glitz but a celebration of Broward County Public Schools' most influential educators, culminating with Miramar High School's science teacher Richard D. Lamarre being named the 2025 Caliber Awards Teacher of the Year. A decade into his career at Miramar High, Lamarre's commitment to his students goes beyond regular classroom duties, as he aims to serve as a positive influence and propel them towards scholarly excellence, as reported by WSVN.
The ceremony thrown by the Broward County Public Schools didn't shy away from recognizing the extraordinary, where 526 nominated educators and staff were narrowed down to 33 semifinalists then to 16 finalists before announcing the winners in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 attendees, as echoed by Broward Schools, Lamarre's approach of innovative teaching and instilling passion for STEM fields earned him that prime spot, reflecting his drive as he states he finds "immense satisfaction in helping students exceed their own expectations and becoming the scholars, I know they can be."
In addition to Lamarre's recognition, the event honored other notable educational figures, including Oriole Elementary's Sheneka Blue as Principal of the Year for her transformative impact on academic proficiency, and Blanche Ely High School's Shenee Rowe as Assistant Principal of the Year for her role in the school's academic achievements; Tracy-Ann Smith of Boyd H. Anderson High School was awarded School-Related Employee of the Year for her contributions towards school operations and literacy programs.
This acknowledgement of the tireless hard work of dedicated educators serves as a reminder of the significance of their roles, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn remarked on the night of the awards, "The Caliber Awards celebrate the incredible impact educators and staff have on our students and our community.
