Tragedy struck the quiet roads of McHenry County earlier this week when a collision involving three vehicles left several people injured, some critically. According to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders rushed to the scene on Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock within Seneca Township, following a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday at around 4:18 p.m.
The accident occurred when a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox attempting to make a careful left turn into a driveway was abruptly struck from behind by a 2000 Ford Van. The young 19-year-old driver of the Ford, seemingly failing to stop quickly, collided with the rear of the Chevrolet, pushing her vehicle into the path of oncoming traffic, where it met head-on with a 2019 Honda CRV.
First responders transported the Ford's teenage driver, now listed in critical condition, to Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital. From there, she was airlifted to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further treatment. Her passenger, a 22-year-old Poplar Grove man, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and is in good condition. Meanwhile, the Honda's 37-year-old driver also received care at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital and is in good condition.
The 62-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet was fortunate to emerge unscathed. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit has been tasked to further unravel how exactly these moments unfolded, working to provide answers and closure to those caught in the crash's turmoil.
