A fatal chain of events unfolded outside the Green Hills Mall in Nashville when a robbery suspect was slain, triggering both a traffic nightmare on Interstate 65 and a complex police investigation. According to Fox17, the incident began when a man, identified by authorities carrying shopping bags from Louis Vuitton, was accosted by two individuals in a Tesla searching for robbery victims in the mall parking lot.
During the altercation, one of the suspects, Omari Moore, 30, wrestled the shopping bags away after confronting the shopper, then returned to the Tesla. The car took off quickly, and the driver was shot amid the chaos, found injured by first responders, and later pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Running after the car, the robbed man threw what appeared to be an extended gun magazine at the vehicle, as NewsChannel5 reports, which was later retrieved by police.
The fatal progression continued as the Tesla crashed into a tree off the entrance ramp to I-65 North. Metro Nashville Police Department spokesman, Don Aaron, told NewsChannel5, "We can obviously see the confrontation between the shopper and the passenger of the vehicle." The passenger, Moore, was witnessed by an officer discarding an automatic pistol missing its magazine following the crash, leading to his arrest at the scene.
Authorities remain in pursuit of the robbery victim who left before officers arrived. "We need to understand what the victim’s perspective was, what the victim saw, and how he reacted," Aaron stated to NewsChannel5. Meanwhile, traffic disruptions continued as some lanes of I-65, which were set to reopen, remained partly closed for ongoing investigations and the ramp was closed for an extended period, as per WSMV. Moore, now facing charges of aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, has been previously convicted for burglary, felony theft, and evading arrest. The investigation is ongoing regarding how exactly the Tesla driver received the fatal gunshot.
