An accidental fire broke out yesterday morning at a commercial building in Fort Pierce, causing significant damage but no injuries. According to CBS12, multiple units from the St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) responded to the fire near 5400 US 1 at around 11:35 a.m.
When first responders arrived, they found the building already evacuated and were able to extinguish the fire without further incident. The fire primarily affected three garages, leaving behind severe damage, including charred awnings. Despite the damage, no injuries were reported.
The fire occurred at a business called Line-X, which provides protective coatings for truck beds. The fire started in the workshop area and spread to the garage. Battalion Chief Jimmy Meyer told TCPalm that the fire was caused by a torch or mechanical tool used to heat up the liner, which got out of control.
Meyer also mentioned the extensive smoke produced by the fire, which was visible for miles. The building suffered heavy damage and will remain out of service until repairs are made. Line-X representatives did not immediately comment on the incident.
