Today, residents of Norman are invited to hear the findings of a significant Public Safety Allocation Study conducted by Matrix Group Consulting, concerning the services and operations of the Norman Police Department and Norman Fire Department; the presentation will be part of the Norman City Council Special Meeting which is set to start at 5:30 p.m., located in the Executive Conference Room of City Hall, this information comes from an official release on the City of Norman's website.
The study, commissioned after the city recognized substantial growth and the need for strategic public safety planning, was initiated by the executive staff of both the Norman Police and Norman Fire in May 2023 with a contract awarded to Matrix Group Consulting in late October of the same year, and these facts were confirmed by the City of Norman official news release.
"The City of Norman has experienced a significant amount of growth and development in recent years and is now uniquely positioned, due to a variety of factors, to experience further expansion in both population and economic development," Maj. Chad Vincent of the Norman Police Department expressed in the release, explaining the city's expansion and the accompanied need for enhanced public safety strategies to maintain service quality.
According to the officers, insights from the Public Safety Allocation Study stem from comprehensive analyses, which included data review, site visits, talks with staff, and input from the community over a span of 14 months; Assistant Chief Chad Roney of the Norman Fire Department was noted in the announcement, saying, "We appreciate the opportunity to work with Matrix Group, which has conducted hundreds of public safety agency studies across the country," and he relayed the Fire Department's eagerness to share the results with the Norman citizens and act on the guidance of the Norman City Council in implementing changes that may arise, as per the City of Norman.
Findings are anticipated to guide decisions on staffing levels, service layout and operational efficiencies and are likely to play a role in supporting other existing long-range plans across the city, like the Area & Infrastructure Master Plan (AIM Norman); the study intends to ensure that Norman sustains its exceptional service standards amid ongoing growth.
