The Plymouth Police Department recently provided an insight into the typical week of their officers with a snapshot of service calls and incidents from February 16 to February 22. Released in a straightforward social media post, the data reveals a range of community engagements performed by the law enforcement officers, from responding to accidents to ensuring public safety via wellbeing checks.
The department's weekly update on Facebook provides a numerical breakdown of their work. During the past week, the police department responded to 636 incidents. Dedicated to keeping the roadways safe, they conducted 80 traffic stops, resulting in 21 reported motor vehicle accidents. Community disturbances, though small in number but significant in their potential for disruption, totaled seven for the week.
Further breaking down the specifics, the update highlighted the investigative side of policing with 27 reports of suspicious activities. Officers were also dispatched to 36 house and building alarms, which, while often false, speaks to the readiness to confront potential emergencies. In an age of nearly omnipresent technology, perpetrators were held to account with 12 arrests and 8 criminal complaints filed.
Apart from the crime and traffic-related activities, the Plymouth Police provided a service that often goes unheralded; they performed 43 medical, mental, and wellbeing checks. Displaying their wider role in community care, these checks are a testament to the multifaceted responsibilities shouldered by the officers. Moreover, they fielded 30 accidental 911 calls, an all-too-common occurrence that, while may provide momentary sighs of relief, underscores the stretched resources of our emergency services.
The Plymouth Police Department's post closed with an expression of gratitude for both their officers' dedication and the community's unwavering support, a reciprocal relationship that seemingly contributes to the town's safety and well-being. As first respondents to both the mundane and the critical, their weekly patrol sketches a microcosm of the societal fabric they strive to protect. "Stay safe, Plymouth!" concludes the message, a succinct reminder of the underpinning goal of their day-to-day endeavors.
