In a statement, Avalos expressed concern and noted her eight years of experience at Portland State University, according to the City of Portland.
A letter on the City of Portland's official website outlines Avalos' support for Portland State University faculty and staff, emphasizing fair treatment, job security, and competitive wages. She urges the administration to settle a contract and address the planned layoffs. "I stand in solidarity with PSU-AAUP in their efforts to protect against layoffs, ensure fair wages, and uphold the values of equity and inclusion that PSU champions," Avalos stated.
