In a move to simplify compliance and offer alternative solutions, two new determinations have been released alongside revisions to existing documentation. The updates, aimed to clarify the application of building codes and provide optional paths for builders, come as a helping hand in navigating the often-complex world of city regulations.
Per information released on the Portland City Government website, the newly introduced Building Official Determinations break ground on specific areas of construction. BOD 25-01 delves into the requirements for helical piles and push piers, shedding light on foundation support systems. On the other hand, seismic benchmarking gets a spotlight with BOD 25-02, questioning the need for additional seismic improvements in commercial buildings already up to modern codes or previously upgraded.
Revisions have also been made to further refine the available guidelines. Determination 17-01 now encompasses all forms of stormwater facilities rather than limiting the focus to dry wells alone. The Building Code Guide 18-10, concerning breweries and distilleries, has been neatly pared down to focus solely on exemptions and interpretations, stripping away outdated definitions and other explanatory material that had perhaps done more to confuse than to clarify.
These alterations aim to not only support compliance with current codes but to ensure Portland remains on the cutting edge of building safety and innovation.
