Authorities in Salt Lake City are currently investigating a disturbing incident in the Liberty Wells neighborhood where a man is accused of using his car as a weapon following a dispute over a parking spot. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, the altercation took place Friday afternoon around 1:54 p.m. and resulted in a 31-year-old man, Calvin Smith, being arrested.

The confrontation began when a 61-year-old woman stood in a parking space to reserve it for an incoming family member, according to statements obtained by the Salt Lake City Police Department. Smith reportedly made a U-turn upon seeing the spot and proceeded to argue with the woman, accelerating his vehicle menacingly towards her.

The situation escalated further when the woman asserted that she was saving the space, to which Smith responded by accelerating once again after a brief reverse, striking the woman's arm as she attempted to avoid being hit. The employee witnessing the incident immediately reported the assault resulting in Smith's arrest for aggravated assault, highlighting a regrettable moment of vehicular violence.

Fortunately, the victim sustained only minor injuries. The entire distressing event was corroborated by an eyewitness at the scene, who saw Smith's acceleration towards the startled woman, the police department relayed. Following the incident, Smith was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail while the investigation continues.
