In a decisive move against illegal activities at the Jordan River Trail, the Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) took into custody 10 individuals during an enforcement operation that unfolded on Tuesday, confirmed the department through a news release. The SLCPD's Pioneer Patrol Division spearheaded the effort with assistance from various units including the K9 Squad and a certified drone operator, the preparation for the operation included drone surveillance which revealed a cluster of people flouting park curfew.

Once the infraction was spotted between the sections of 500 North and 700 North along the trail, the police tactically positioned their forces and made their presence known, at which point several individuals attempted to flee, and, despite the initial chaos, pursuit aided by drone technology enabled the apprehension of nine who tried to evade by running through backyards, one individual was found hiding behind a garbage can, another on a resident's front porch. In total, 46 persons were detained for identification by the authorities, only 10, however, faced booking at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail, while three others were cited, and the remaining 33 were issued warnings, according to SLCPD.

Among the arrested, 31-year-old Ivan Carbajal and 33-year-old Rayford Benally stand out due to their charges, as Carbajal is suspected of felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute among other offenses, and Benally for felony charges of being a non-compliant sex offender and additional warrants related to his failure to register as such. The news release highlighted the arrests of others, including Annie Woodard, Nicholas Martinez, Samuel Cunningham, Austin Richens, Lilinoe Pulotu, Ricky Martinez, Richard Sanchez, and Daniel Ortiz, all while emphasizing that charges are mere allegations and not indicative of guilt unless proven in a court of law.

The SLCPD has made available four segments of the drone footage from the operation, viewable for media utilization with due credit given to the department; these efforts align with the approach of maintaining transparency about law enforcement activities, among community members and a broader audience, the SLCPD's strategic operations aim not only to enforce the law but also to assure public safety and restore communal peace in areas plagued by recurrent illegal acts.
