The Castro District has been in the headlines recently due to a disturbing series of events involving Michael Watson, 35, who has been charged with indecent exposure and child molestation. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins identified Watson as someone with a prior conviction who's now facing three counts each of indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child and two counts of stalking. Set for arraignment, Jenkins emphasizes that Watson's conduct poses a significant risk, and the DA's office seeks to detain him without bail.
This case became critical because the victims were two middle school students who often visited local Boba shops. These young individuals endured Watson's disturbing behavior, which, according to court documents, included standing naked and masturbating in front of them. This situation has unfolded repeatedly over the past year. Watson's arrest ensued after complaints reached authorities, leading to his capture without incident on the 900 block of Folsom Street, as per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
Parents in the community, like Renata Becker, whose 14-year-old daughter was one of the victims, expressed a guarded sense of relief upon hearing of Watson's arrest, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I know there’s a long way to go still, but I will continue to keep an eye on this matter," Becker stated, despite worries of Watson potentially being released on bail.
