The San Francisco Police Department is alerting locals to a peculiar string of thefts of utility covers. In the past two years, over 400 have been swiped from sidewalks, leaving dangerous gaps in the pavement.
The police are working hard to recover these civic pieces, some marked 'San Francisco Water Department' and others branded 'SFPUC'.
In a display of community partnership, the SFPUC and the SFPD are leaning on the public's eyes. Any sighted or found utility covers should prompt a call to 311. The civic process, while simple, serves an essential function in ensuring that those missing pieces are replaced swiftly, re-securing the safety of San Francisco's concrete carpet, as per the San Francisco Police Department.
