San José Police Department made a significant breakthrough in a case of a bizarre attempted kidnapping, which led them also to thwart an associated bank robbery plot. The authorities have apprehended two suspects, identified as Denzel Jones, 23, of Henderson, NV, and Trashauna Outlaw, 21, also from Henderson, NV. The pair is currently detained in Clark County Detention Center for unrelated crimes but will soon face charges back in California.
According to an official statement by the San José Police Department, the incident occurred on November 17, 2024, around 9:55 PM, when Jones and Outlaw appeared at the home of a female bank employee. They attempted to falsely arrest her, posing as Federal agents, claiming she was facing unspecified charges. However, the would-be victim didn't want to be easily misled, grew quickly suspicious, and chose not to comply with the suspects' demands, forcing them to flee the scene just before the police arrived.
The investigation progressed rapidly as Assaults Unit Detectives of SJPD uncovered the suspects' underlying motive: a planned kidnapping meant to facilitate a bank robbery. With sufficient evidence amassed, the detectives obtained arrest warrants for Jones and Outlaw, which culminated in their capture.
The suspects, who have a history of bank robberies in Nevada, are waiting to be extradited to California. There, they will "be booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted kidnapping, impersonating a Federal agent, and invasion of privacy via electronic tracking," the San José Police Department announced in a statement. In light of the ongoing legal process and the search for additional information, Detective Martinez of the SJPD Assaults Unit has openly requested that anyone with relevant insights reach out to aid the investigation.
