State Senator Andy Zay (R-Huntington) recently hosted a young constituent at the Statehouse. Eastbrook High School student Milo King, hailing from Upland, took a special trip to serve as a Senate page for a day this past February. The page program offers students a front-row seat to the machinations of state government.
The day-long program is interactive and immersive. Pages like Milo get to tour the historic Statehouse, watch Senate debates, and engage directly with lawmakers, including their local representatives. "I always enjoy meeting with local students like Milo who have traveled down to Indianapolis for the day to watch the legislative process in action," Zay mentioned in an Indiana Senate Republicans. "Being a Senate page is a unique learning experience that I encourage more eligible students in the community to take advantage of."
Senator Zay’s invitation to students like Milo is part of a larger effort to educate young Hoosiers about the legislative process and inspire a passion for public service. The program is open to students in grades six through twelve and runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during legislative sessions, with groups serving on Wednesdays.
