The St. Bernard Sheriff's Office is increasing its presence at today’s Knights of Nemesis Carnival Parade in Chalmette, starting at 1 p.m. Deputies will be stationed around the event for safety, and they’ll also provide live updates on social media, according to a statement obtained by the SBSO.

With a dual approach aimed to keep celebration-goers both safe and informed, the Sheriff's Office is set to take to Facebook and YouTube for live communications. Sheriff James Pohlmann emphasized the benefit of this strategy in a statement, saying, "By posting updates on Facebook, we can reduce the number of calls coming into our 9-1-1 Center, keeping the lines open for emergencies." This shift in operational protocol, intending to alleviate the calls influx on parade day, will also see their Mobile Emergency Operations Center riding in front of the festive procession, as reported by the SBSO.

The parade is a traditional festive highlight in the community, featuring 15 floats and traversing the customary path that starts and ends at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center at 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive. Live parade coverage and updates can be anticipated to disseminate the parade's location in real time, providing attendees with an ongoing sense of the event’s progress and any pertinent public safety information.

The SBSO will use social media to keep the parade crowd informed and improve safety. Their Mobile Emergency Operations Center will be placed in front of the floats to provide real-time updates on the parade’s location.
