In an effort to clear up confusion among residents of St. John the Baptist Parish, the local Sheriff's Office has recently addressed an ongoing telephone scam situation, one that strikes at the intersection of civic duty and digital deception. In a report, the Sheriff's Office has gone on record to clarify that the calls from GTAM Services regarding outstanding property tax bills are indeed legitimate.

GTAM Services is tasked with informing residents about their due taxes, but residents should not expect to be asked for payments or sensitive financial information over the phone. In an update published on St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office's Facebook page, the St. John Sheriff’s Office stated, "GTAM Services will never ask residents to make payments over the phone nor will they ask for any financial information, such as a credit card or bank account."

For those looking to settle up with the taxman, the payments are to be made either online via the Sheriff's Office website or by walking into the Sheriff's Office itself.  The office urges anyone with doubt or in need of further information to reach out directly to the St. John Sheriff's Office at (985) 359-8710.
