State Rep. Joe Casello is running for a seat on the Palm Beach County Commission after serving Palm Beach County’s House District 90 since 2018. He is aiming to replace incumbent Gregg Weiss, who is term-limited and running for West Palm Beach mayor instead.
According to The Palm Beach Post, the election for the seat is set for August and November of 2026, but Casello, a Democrat from Boynton Beach, has already started his campaign. He joins West Palm Beach City Commissioner Joseph Peduzzi, who has also declared his candidacy. "I know it is early," Casello said, referring to his preparations, "but I am already heavily into this effort and wanted to let people know of my intent."
Casello has gained strong support, with endorsements from U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, state Senators Lori Berman and Tina Polsky, state Reps. Kelly Skidmore and Debra Tendrich, and others. He has also received backing from various unions, including the Palm Beach County Firefighters, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Palm Beach County Classroom Teacher Association, as reported by the Palm Beach Post.
Casello’s campaign has raised over $100,000 through his political action committee for his commission run. With a background in public service, including being a firefighter, union member, and business owner of Casello Electric Services, Casello brings diverse experience to his candidacy. "Our community deserves strong, experienced leadership, and I am ready to bring my knowledge, dedication, and passion to serve District 2," Casello told Florida Politics.
Peduzzi has also secured key endorsements, including support from West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James. The race is shaping up to be competitive, with both candidates having strong local political records. The winner of the Democratic primary will move on to the general election, where they will help set policy and oversee government operations in Palm Beach County. The commission currently has a Democratic majority after flipping from a Republican majority in the previous election.
